World cereal production was forecast to be 840 Million tonnes (2023)<sup data-fn=\"862cc8ed-4051-4a1c-83bc-4680518ea5dc\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"862cc8ed-4051-4a1c-83bc-4680518ea5dc-link\" href=\"#862cc8ed-4051-4a1c-83bc-4680518ea5dc\">1<\/a><\/sup> with a projected value of $950 billion (2024) and an estimated growth rate of 6.2%<sup data-fn=\"ea93baff-b855-427f-84b4-f633188da0f6\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"ea93baff-b855-427f-84b4-f633188da0f6-link\" href=\"#ea93baff-b855-427f-84b4-f633188da0f6\">2<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n    <div class=\"container-xl\">\n\t\t\n<p>Managing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydronix.com\/measure\/grain-bulk-solids\/\">moisture content of cereal grains<\/a> is crucial to maximising storage times, maintaining nutritional value and taste, reducing costs and waste and ensuring efficient use during further processing.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n    <div class=\"container-xl pt-4\" id=\"the-benefits-of-precise-moisture-control\">\n        \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><strong>The benefits of precise moisture control<\/strong><\/a><\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grain can be stored safely for longer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimises the amount of energy required to dry the grain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintains the nutritional value and taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduces harvesting losses such as cracked kernels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduces dependency on weather conditions for harvesting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n    <div class=\"container-xl pt-4\" id=\"where-to-measure-moisture\">\n        \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where to measure moisture<\/strong><\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">    <div class=\"container-xl\">\n\t\t\n<p>Hydronix sensors are used to measure the moisture of the material entering and exiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydronix.com\/processes\/drying\/\">dryer<\/a>. For a batch dryer system with a reasonably consistent incoming moisture, one sensor can be used on the output of the dryer. The sensor\u2019s output can be used as the process variable of a feedback control loop for the dryer.<\/p>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n    <div class=\"container-xl\">\n\t\t\n<p>For systems with more fluctuation on the incoming materials this may be insufficient due to the time delay between materials entering and exiting the dryer. In this case another sensor can be installed on the input to the dryer to implement feed-forward control of the dryer with the value from the sensor on the output used for feedback error correction. In this location, the sensor enables the drying parameters (feed-forward) to be adjusted based on the material\u2019s moisture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The material is dried.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A moisture sensor is installed at the output of the dryer to enable precise PID feedback loop control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The material is elevated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Depending on the measured moisture level, the material is either diverted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hydronix.com\/processes\/storage\/\">silo for storage<\/a> or recirculated to the dryer for further drying.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n    <div class=\"container-xl pt-4\" id=\"results-after-installing-the-sensor\">\n        \n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Results after installing the sensor<\/strong><\/h2>\n    <\/div>\n    \n\n    <div class=\"container-xl\">\n\t\t\n<p>A well-calibrated system will achieve accuracies better than \u00b10.5%.
