USER GUIDES

The Hydro-Probe Orbiter User Guide is split into two parts.

Part 1: Static Operation, model ORB1 (HS0215)
Details installation, wiring, configuration, removal and replacement of the Sensing Arm. This is sufficient for applications where the sensor is static such as conveyors or positioned in a rotating pan style mixer.

Part 2 : Rotating Operation, model ORB1 (HS0256)
Details information on selecting and fitting the Rotating Connector for use in applications where the sensor is in motion.

There is also a separate engineering note, EN0045 that just details removal and replacement of the replaceable sensing arm. This is an excerpt from the user guide and is shipped with each replacement arm.

   
  PART 1 (For model ORB1 - static mounting)
An additional protective coating applied to the sensing arms negates the use of wear bands, version 1.1.0 of the user guide reflects this improvement to the product.

DIRECT INTEGRATION INTO YOUR CONTROLS

Customers who wish to use the RS232/485 communication capabilities of the Hydro-Probe Orbiter, i.e. directly integrating the sensor with their control equipment, will need the protocol specification. The specification, user guides and accompanying software can be found from the software page (see Associated Software below).
   
 

PROTECTIVE WEAR SLEEVES

The main body of the sensing arm is coated with a highly wear resistant material and will give months of life in most applications. For extremely harsh applications Hydronix recommend the use of wear sleeves to help protect the upper part of arm as shown below, the wear sleeves are manufactured from a highly wear resistant material and will help to prolong the life of the Sensing Arm. Rotating Connector Installation Instructions

The Rotating Connector is designed to fit many different types of static pan mixer where cable access is possible through the centre of the mixer. It has recently been redesigned to make it easier to install and connect. The engineering note detailing installation instructions can be downloaded here: EN0054 V1.0.0.

Suggestions for mounting the Hydro-Probe Orbiter in a rotating pan mixer

This engineering note provides suggestions for way to mount the Hydro-Probe Orbiter in a rotating pan mixer.  It includes photographs and diagrams : EN0055 V1.0.1.

FIRMWARE UPGRADES

Hydronix has developed a programme that will make it simpler to upgrade the firmware in all of its sensors. The download includes the latest version releases and will automatically detect the sensor and ugrade it accordingly. This programme will replace individual firmware upgrades.

Released in May 2008, version 2.14. Support added for selecting orbiter arm type, to give different spans for each type

Version 2.0 of the Hydro-Probe Orbiter firmware incorporated a new AutoCal feature that allows a replacement Sensing Arm to be easily calibrated to an existing Head Unit without the need of RS485 communication. For more information and how to upgrade please refer to the latest version of the Hydro-Probe Orbiter User Guide (HD0215) and the Hydro-Com Software User Guide (see Associated Software below).

ASSOCIATED SOFTWARE

Hydro-Com (HS0068). The Hydro-Com software is an application that enables the user to configure and maintain systems incorporating Hydronix microwave moisture sensors.
