Whole Kernel Corn
Typical moisture range 14-18%

One successful method of controlling the moisture content of whole kernel corn as an input into a process is to hold the corn in a number of bins, ascertain the moisture content of each bin and to blend the bins to hit the required moisture target.

Using the Hydro-Probe II it is possible to accurately measure the moisture content of the flowing material. Each bin gate is opened and a known weight of material is allowed to flow over the sensor. By calculating the moisture content and knowing the weights it is then possible to make a final adjustment on-the-fly and to jog in material from the most appropriate bin to best hit your required 'blended' material moisture target.

Hydronix application note AN0001 details actual calibration data and results from such an application. The baked results are obtained from drying and weighing the material and are compared to the calculated linear regression.

Because the Hydro-Probe II is linear across the working moisture range the results show a very accurate moisture reading. The bake out test results are plotted against the linear regression line (used by the equipment to calculate the 'true' moisture content). The results can be seen to be highly accurate as the bake out tests are almost exactly in line with the linear regression.
